A Weekend With My Kitties...

Today I was watching my cats play while thinking about what I should blog about and decided they would be as good a subject as any other. I think I should start off by introducing the kitties, I have 7 after all and if you don't know who they all are you could get a bit confused...

Apache

Apache is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen. She is a lovely half Siamese calico that we rescued from the alley behind our apartment complex a little more than 2 years ago when she and her brother and sister were just tiny kittens.

Punkin, King Of The Chair
Punkin is my little house lion. He's a cute half Siamese red tabby that loves to lay on my chest while I read or watch TV. He will sometimes sit on my lap while I am playing on the PC and is rarely more than 5' away from me at any given time. Punkin loves to give kisses and get scratched under his chin. Apache and Spice are his sisters.

Spice
Spice is loving half Siamese seal point. She has the loudest purr I have ever heard in any cat. So loud that she can be across the room from me and I can still often hear her purring over the sound of the TV. She is (was, they're all fixed now except Gizmo and Abby) a good mother to her kittens and she likes having her head petted.

Tithers
Thiders (aka Tithers) is an American Medium Hair black and white tabby that I kinda stole from a friend of mine. She was asked to watch her for a couple of weeks and couldn't after a few days because of her BFs allergies so she asked me to take her. I agreed and after 2 months of growing attatched to this precious baby I called her and told her she had to pick the cat up in 1 hour or I was keeping her for good...well, here we are 2 years later and she's still with us and I wouldn't give her up for anything. She is very quiet and gentle in nature and she LOVES being petted while she kneads on your tummy.

Gizmo
Gizmo is a black an white American Short Hair. My neighbor brought him to me when he was about 8 weeks old asking me if I could take him in. I told her to leave him with me for a day and I would see. The poor little thing was feral and I decided to re domesticate him and find him a good home. Well, it took the better part of a year to get him used to being around people and by then Sue and I were both so attatched at we couldn't give him up. He is now a fully integrated part of our family and really loves having his chin and jawline scratched while he sits next to you.

Rascal
Rascal is an American Short Hair black tabby.  He spends most of his time lieing on and with the dog. Rascal and his sister, Crookshanks, were dropped off on our doorstep one day and we couldn't just leave them out there, they were so tiny and cute...Crookshanks has since crossed over the rainbow bridge after having a seizure but Rascal is doing quite well. The poor thing does have a Napoleon complex though as he is tiny for a full grown cat. When I brought him to the vet to get fixed they almost didn't do his surgery because they thought he was a kitten until they his teeth. He only weighed 4 lbs. at the time and isn't any bigger now, almost a year later. He's a really loving cat who follows the dog everywhere.

As we don't currently have a camera we don't have a picture of Abby at the moment but she is an American Medium Hair black and white tabby, very similar to Thiders. She is the most loving cat I have ever seen. She constantly wants to have her face next to yours and wants to be petted ALL the time. We got Abby several months ago when our neighbor asked us to take her because they had rescued her from an abusive situation but now they couldn't keep her as his wife was pregnant and they didn't want the cat around the baby. Unfortunately, we are trying to find a new home for Abby as she doesn't get along with the other cats at all. I think she needs to be in a one cat household with someone who will love her as much as we do. Abbys tail is broken in 3 places from her previous abuse but she doesn't seem to notice it much. If you are interested in adopting her and live in the Las Vegas area please leave a comment here or email me and I will get back to you. Giving her up won't be an easy thing and I will be very picky about where she goes, I love my babies and want to make sure that if I have to get rid of any of them that the next people will too.

That's about all for now. I hope you look forward to hearing more about my babies as I am sure I will be posting more about in the future.

Talk to you all soon, and remember,

Friday night...

Staying in tonight, watching some TV and relaxing. Did go down to the Mont for a bit last night had dinner with Sue and Kendra at McDonalds at the Plaza. We were gonna go to subway until they said they didn't have the $5 footlong special and we said, "Well what good are ya then!?". I did make the mistake of telling Kendra "Bite me!" at one point, it took me an hour to rub the toothmarks out of my arm and it actually still tingled a bit this morning...WOW she sure does have a strong set of jaws. No if she would find a way  to use  that power for good...

Anyway I decided to stay home tonight because I have gone downtown 15 nights in a row and it starts to wear on you after awhile. The same bands, the same shows...Sunday and Monday I will be down for sure with Wonderboogie being there. Tuesday night the Pink Floyd tribute starts so I will certainly be there for that but as for tonight, and maybe tomorrow, I am going to stay home, watch a couple of movies, chat, tweet and generally relax!

Styx...Band or River?

In this case, I think a little of both. On Fremont St. this week is a Styx tribute band and while they are good I just haven't enjoyed their show as much as I have some of the other tributes that have been here this summer.  Their one big strength is that the lead singer really does sound like Dennis DeYoung. The drunk "Styx fans" are really funny as they only know 2 songs and keep requesting "Babe" and "Renegade" over and over and ignoring the other songs. The band does do quite a few of Styx's better songs though even if most people, even those who call themselves Styx fans, don't know them. Their rendition of "Don't Let It End" is rather impressive as they have the harmonies down quite well.

On a more personal note, Kendra is currently angry with me for telling her mother, via Taz, about the 44 year old guy who has been trying to have a "relationship" with her. How a 44yo could even think about having a relationship with a 15yo girl is beyond me. I'd rather have her angry with me for a time, though, than to see her get hurt by this person; so as long as she is safe I'm a happy camper. Tasha is trying to get together with one of the security guards on Fremont St., Adam, but she is being chicken about talking to him herself and I don't think it is going to happen in any event for reasons I'd rather not blog about and embarrass her.

Next week the tribute is to Pink Floyd, looking forward to that one, should be some fun there. The following week will be a Fleetwood Mac tribute and if it is the same band they had last time they did a Fleetwood Mac tribute on Fremont it will be great. They really did a wonderful job and Fleetwood Mac has always been one of my favorite groups.

That's about all for now, have fun and remember,

Weekend happenings...

Well, Platinum Rockstars ended the week in spectacular fashion with their final 2 shows on Thursday and Friday. Their Van Halen guitarist had to leave Wednesday night though and his replacement did a good job, but they replaced the Van Halen part of the show with Foreigner. Sunday and Monday, of course, Wonderboogie was back as always and did their usual fun shows. Other than that the weekend was rather a bust for me as I had a killer toothache the entire time and wasn't able to do or enjoy much.

Kendra got mad at me yesterday for some reason, she said I scared someone she knew, someone I have never spoken to mind you. But we'll get it sorted. Tonight the Styx tribute band starts at the Fitz stage and I will, of course, be there to cover it all. Maybe this time I'll bring a pad and paper and do some interviews and post a set list...we'll see. ;)

On The Mont...

Been going down every night for Platinum Rockstars and we've all been having a good time. On Wednesday Kendra texted me at 2:30 to ask if I was going down and I said of course I was. So she came down and had dinner with us and walked up to the Mont with us rather than meeting us there like she normally would. She didn't eat much, but then she never does really. While we were eating I was playing some No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo on pokerstars.net and hit a Royal Flush! The guy with the full house wasn't too pleased but I was happy as a pig in...well...ya know, this is a family show so I'll keep it nice, I'm sure you can figure out what a pig is happy in ;).  Zombie showed up Wednesday night and surprised Kendra as she hadn't seen him in quite some time.

Kendra And Mike from Platinum Rockstars

Tasha and I have been flirting quite a bit more than usual for the last several days but I still don't think anything will ever come of it, we're just having too much fun as things are. She's great and all and I would protect her with my life if I needed to but I seriously don't think we'd be compatible in a relationship of "that kind".

On Thursday after some prodding by Kendra, show me a 15yo girl who doesn't prod and I'll show you a politician who tells the truth, I walked down to the Mont a bit earlier than usual. I usually try to get there just before 9pm but she wanted me to get there at 7pm so I did. As I walked up to the Krispy Kreme at Fitzgeralds, Kendra was with a couple of her friends from school at the temporary tattoo kiosk and was about to get a tattoo of a Chinese symbol for "Love" I looked at the choices and convinced her to get the symbol for "Beautiful" instead. She spent the rest of the night sending pictures of it to virtually everyone in the world :).

The band was awesome as usual and they changed things a little by playing a couple of different songs than the previous few nights. The lead guitarist who has been playing with this particular group of Platinum Rockstars left after last night's show to go back to L.A. and his replacement arrived at about the same time. After walking Kendra to the DTC like I normally do I decided to walk back through the Mont rather than go straight home as I hadn't had a chance to say bye to everyone before leaving to catch Kendras bus. As I was walking down 2nd St. about 1/2 way down Binions I got a txt from Jessica saying that Brooklyn was having a seizure...I didn't think I could run that fast anymore. I ran the rest of that block and all the way back to the 3rd St. stage on Fremont with tourists looking at, and probably thinking I was a criminal of some sort, all the way. When I got there the paramedics were already taking care of him and they took him off to the hospital. Hope to have some kind of word tonight as to his condition and will keep ya updated. Well, that's about it for now. One last picture...

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Well, The Platinum Rockstars did an amazing job. Not counting the ever popular and fun Wonderboogie last night was the most fun I've had on Fremont St. in quite a long time. The show the did wasn't the one that was listed on the Fremont schedules but it was awesome none the less. The bands they performed were Led Zeppelin, Boston, Van Halen, Journey, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. Performing 3-5 songs from each band with the lead singer doing costume changes in between these guys did a great job. As usual there were 3 45-50 minute sets starting at around 9:10pm and ending around 11:55pm. During each set they featured 2 bands in the order listed above and we all had a great time.

About half way through the Journey set Kenda had an asthma attack but we were quick to get her inhailer and cool her down and she was ok after a minute or two.Tasha and I had a great time singing along and dancing to everything, especially the Journey stuff, and we both plan on being there again tonight as well (shocked?). Jessica took a picture of me and sent it to my phone but I can't seem to retrieve it for some reason :(. Again, I hope to find someone who can take and email me some pictures tonight that I can post here to show you all what a fun time we really have.

Fremonts Finest...

Last night was a blast overall. Sue had a few minor issues which were handled quickly and all else went quite well. Kendra, Tasha, Sue and I had a great laugh as we all tried to do the "Cupid Shuffle" and "The Cha Cha Slide".

WonderBoogie was playing at the 3rd St. stage and as usual they put on one heck of a performance. There are many talented bands here in Vegas but WonderBoogie is certainly at the top of the list. I am far from what you would call a disco fan and yet when WonderBoogie is on stage I can't help finding myself having a good time singing along and dancing. The comedy and audience participation segments of their show are 2nd to none and I go down to see them every chance I get.

I am expecting an email in 2-3 days of a video of the "Dancing Queen" portion of the show, where the band chooses a member of the audience (always a man), gives them the "WonderBoogie Oath", dresses them up in hilarious costumes and makes them dance around the audience to "Dancing Queen" by ABBA. This is one of the most fun parts of the show, but with the video coming here it is just more proof that what happens in Vegas does NOT stay here...;)

Tonight we will continue our trek through the 70s as The Platinum Rockstars will be on the 3rd St. stage performing a tribute to Foreigner, Boston, Led Zeppelin and Van Halen. It should be a great time and I am hoping Andrea shows up tonight with her camera so I can post some pics. If not I will try to find a way to get some pics up here, but my phone doesn't have a camera so I have to rely on someone else...

See ya soon and remember,

What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas?

I think not! The truth of the matter is that what happens in Vegas stays on the internet! I'll be writing here about the local goings on in Downtown Las Vegas and sometimes maybe about what is happening on the strip as well.

I'll start with tonight...

I got to The Fremont St. Experience (henceforth known as "the mont" or "the mall") at around 9pm. The AC/DC Tribute band "Highway To Hell" was just starting to play and I figured I'd spend the evening listening to them alone as most of my friends don't usually come out on sunday night...wow was I wrong. As I walked up to my usual spot I was jumped on and promptly hugged by Kendra and Tasha and I also noticed that Brian and Karen where there as well.

After about 30 minutes Tasha, her new BF and Kendra decided they wanted to go down to the 1st St. stage and watch "Fremont Fever" so we all walked down there and had fun cheering Jason on in our usual Fremont fashion...in other words we laughed and had a good time while singing along and making jokes about the outfits he was forced to wear as part of the show. Once we go to the 1st St. stage we ran into Dillon and his bud Eric, everyone wanted to go down to Main St. to the DJ rather than continue watching the show and so we went...Booooring...I don't dance much so the DJ is a bit of a bore for me but being with my friends is always a cool thing.

So, I stuck around until 11 or so and asked Tasha to make sure Kendra got home before curfew, she really can't afford another citation, and saundered off back to the 3rd St. stage to see a few more minutes of the AC/DC tribute and say good night to Brian and Karen.

Yeah, yeah, I know...pretty boring stuff tonight. But wait until Friday and Saturday when all the freaks come out...you'll see, it'll get interesting then...;)
